21 Days of my 21st Birthday!!!

Posted by Nikki Yeager on June 7, 2010 at 12:30 PM

So my birthday is only like a month away and I'm not a big partier or a big birthday person BUT I was hoping you could all help me celebrate this one.

Since it's my 21st (sort of a milestone, right?) I started thinking about all the usual growing up stuff and had a bit of a panic moment. I'm almost 21 and there's still so much I haven't tried.  Oh my!

To fix that I'm having 21 days of my 21st birthday where I do 21 things that are on my "do before I die" list. I was hoping everyone out there could help out by giving me suggestions on where to go/how to make it happen. I may have a new job but I still don't have much expendable income so if anyone can hook me up for some of these things or wants to come along let me

21 things List
  1. Learn to skateboard: I don't have a skateboard so I'd need to take lessons from someone who'd let me use theirs. Can go anywhere in NYC
  2. Ride a Segway. Before this one was "watch SNL being taped" but I found out that doesn't happen in the summer so who knows someone with a Segway in NYC?! Changed to- Shoot clay pottery in the air with a rifle (don't know the technical name but I hear you can do it in Jersey!)
  3. Learn to surf. I hear Long Island has surfing but lessons are crazy expensive. Does anyone have a friend who can surf and has a board .. and maybe an extra board??
  4. Jetski. Does this exist in Jersey, Cleveland or NYC? I'll be in Ohio a few days before my actual bday so I could make Cleveland work the 16th or 17th.
  5. Skydive. Again, tandem jumps are super expensive.... and no one ever wants to come with! So if anyone can get me a discount...Or wants to join.
  6. Brazillian Wax. Weird to have on the list, I know. But EVERY girl here gets them and I've never had one!
  7. Try Kambucha and Aloe tea. Stupid little thing I know but I'm afraid of both drinks and you're supposed to do something you're afraid of every day. Any suggestions for the best brands?
  8. Ride in a helicopter. Ok, you may not believe me but I have friends who have admitted to having friends with helicopters. It'd be super if someone would let me ride it theirs.... it can be a short little ride at a weird hour. I could bring them snacks. It'd be fun!
  9. Be on tv. Are there any really good free tv filmings or a news station that always does street shots in the same place? It doesn't matter if I'm just in an audience.. I've never been on tv lol
  10. Fly a plane. You can take lessons at this place a little bit upstate. It only costs 110 dollars and you get to actually fly the plane! but if anyone knows somewhere I can get an intro lesson (where they actually let you try to fly) for cheaper I'd love to hear it!!
  11. Crazy Church. One of those Baptist churches where women dance in the aisle, everyone sings and people catch the spirit left and right. Do these exist in NYC and can someone please give me an address? Doesn't matter what language the service is in or what neighborhood I have to go to.
  12. Watch Cirque du Soleil. Looks like the only show near my bday is in Boston on July 22. Any chance anyone knows someone who can get cheap tix or hang out with me in Boston if I find a way to make it work. As a backup I'd like to see Stomp in NYC. Both shows I've wanted to see for years.
  13. Go skinny dipping. Everyone is supposed to do this when they're young and rebellious. I feel like I missed out lol!
  14. Drive a racecar. There are racecar tracks with lesson in Long Island and a little upstate. I could use a connection or someone who has done it before.
  15. Get a Chinese massage. I live in chinatown but I'm always afraid to go into the little shady looking massage parlors because they're notorious for happy endings. But it's like 10 bucks for a legit massage if you can get past the bad rep. Who's coming?
  16. Go to the Hamptons. Not sure what's there or what I'd do.. but hey, everyone goes at one point in their life. Have any friends with a house there? Bonus points if you know someone with a sailboat too, I could double up on things I've never done!!
  17. Museum of Sex. The name just draws you in even though I hear it's dull inside. Nonetheless I've been dying to say "I went to the Museum of Sex" since I moved to NYC the first time.
  18. Five Course Meal. I've had a three course meal, maybe even a four course meal, but I've never had an honest to goodness five course meal at a swanky restaurant with miniature servings of rich foods. Anyone want to take me on a friend-date for my b-day?
  19. Ballet. Never gone but I want to.
  20. Go Golfing. I feel like golfing could be super awesome or dreadfully boring. Which is why I never wanted to spend money on it. Would like to find someone with a country club membership or something.
  21. Drink with old friends. For my actual bday I'm going to fly to Cleveland and drink with my old high school friends. When I was in school I made a point to NEVER touch alcohol because I wanted to be responsible and not worry about driving. Therefore try to free up your July 18th if your in Wickliffe. I'll be ready to partaaayyyyy
For it all I'm going to blog and take photos, or video when feasible, so I can share with everyone who's interested! Hope you all can be a part of it and even if you only have a little suggestion, I promise any advice/hookups would help a TON. Plus, all favors or connections are always re-payed whenever I can help :)

P.S. I'll update what I'm doing and who's helping with what via comments!!!

11. I got a TON of suggestions for crazy churches. My friend Ellen and I (and maybe Johnny) are definitely hitting one up. With full Sunday church attire, dainty gloves and Sunday hats. ... We will be dancing in the aisle
